Colchester Free Festival announce Main Stage Lineup

After a year’s absence, it’s great news to see the return of Colchester’s best music festival, Colchester Free Festival. They’ve clearly not slacked off in their absence, however, doubling the size and giving us a two day festival. All of that for free!

Showcasing the best talent from the local area, it’s excellent to see Animal Noise headlining the Saturday and Slugworth headlining the Sunday night. Animal Noise, freshly signed to Love Records (a Sony subsidiary), will be bringing their fairly upbeat, interesting music to Castle Park, no doubt giving us a taste of what to expect from their forthcoming second album. Fuzzy guitars, complex arrangements and lush vocals. Having recently seen Slugworth at their EP launch, they’ll certainly be a mind expanding end to the festival, their music being a bit ‘out-there’. A mixture of excellent vocals, crazy guitar parts and a twisted sense of humour, they’re unmissable on the Sunday.

Aside from the headliners, there’s plenty of talent further down the line-up. It’s great to see relative newcomers Surge in the penultimate position on Saturday; while they haven’t been around that long their commitment to relentless gigging and writing new material has clearly been working and this late Saturday slot is totally deserved.

The line-up as it stands looks like this:

Saturday: PollyPreacher, Matt Calderbank, Anna Pancaldi, Polly Violet Collective, Rony Rosado, Vardo and the Boss, Hobo Chang,
So Called Humans, F.O.X, Surge and Animal Noise.

Sunday: Fishclaw, Groovetails, Jonathan Marriot, The Kubricks, Pistols & Vultures, Young Claws, Killatrix, Off the Wall and Slugworth.

In addition to this, they’ve announced that Tankton Town will be setting up at the festival, featuring more art and music than you could possibly need, plus there’s still more music to be announced! While Tankton is free during the day, there’ll be an afterparty from 7pm til 11pm which will require a wristband which you can currently buy online.
