7Bit’s 7Best: Dot to Dot

With the first of the May Bank Holiday weekends gone, it’s time to turn your attention to the next. For us at 7Bit, that means turning our attention to Bristol for the Dot to Dot tenth birthday celebration. With over fifty acts announced for the day it can be a bit intimidating knowing where to start and that’s where the 7Bit’s 7Best come into it… We’ve scoured the line up to bring you seven of the acts that you cannot afford to miss.

Black Honey
Exchange: 13:30-14:00
When we first uncovered the Brighton quartet last year, they were shrouded in so much mystery that, at the time, we didn’t even know they were a quartet. Since then the band have dropped the suspense and come out guitars blazing. Their sound blends the snarling tenacity of Wolf Alice with the fuzzing lo-fi melodies of Honeyblood with an extra helping of Temples-esque psych. And make no mistake, these guys are one of the best new live bands of 2015 without a shadow of a doubt.

Fat White Family
Trinity: 20:45-21:15
If you have somehow missed Fat White Family in the past two years, then really where have you been hiding? Fat Whites have become notorious for their live performances which are always precariously balanced on the edge of devolving in to chaos. Their bluesy rock’n’roll comes liberally smothered in grime and it will undoubtedly send you to the realms of uncomfortable as people chant ‘Bomb Disneyland‘ like a brainwashed cult. But if there’s one band that will bring the spectacle, it’s this group of misfits.

Kagoule
Exchange: 15:30-16:00
Kagoule are a band that could’ve quite easily stepped straight out of the 90’s grunge era– but instead of it sounding old and worn, the Nottingham trio are excitingly new, fresh and ferocious. These guys aren’t afraid to throw in the likes of jagged indie rock and punk sounds into the mix to ensure you’ll never get bored of their set.

Oscar
Exchange: 17:30-18:00
There’s something undeniably British about Oscar. His lo-fi electro-pop melodies are toe-tapping, head-bopping delights that are sure to coax a smile even out of the harshest of critics. Meanwhile his rich baritone vocal acts as a beautiful– very British– juxtaposition and makes sure you never get too swept away in the instrumentation.

Pixel Fix
The Louisiana: 20:30-21:00
If there’s one band in 2015 that has earnt the label ‘cinematic’, it’s Pixel Fix. Here’s a band that shows the perfect unity between electronic music and guitars to create a sound that’s grandiose without being over-stated or forced.

Sundara Karma
Trinity 2: 20:15-20:45
Summertime brightness and tropical escapism are rife in Sundara Karma‘s releases thus far. The quartet have distilled the best bits out of the likes of Tribes, Peace and Swim Deep to create infectious earworm tracks that are heavy on the 90’s revivalist vibes.

VANT
Thelka: 15:00-15:30
After a storming set at The Great Escape last Saturday, VANT have proven themselves to be a band not to be trifled with. Expect a raucous set with tracks delivered at breakneck speed and a volume that’ll keep your eardrums rattling for hours later.
