Preview: Arcane Roots @ Colchester Arts Centre, 28th April 2015

Arcane Roots have been teasing us. While a lot of bands lock themselves in the studio and do all that they can to keep the product of their sessions under wraps, Arcane Roots have been posting videos like this on Facebook, showing the progress in 15 second blasts that just leave us wanting more.

Thankfully, they seem to be keen on letting us all hear them in a more complete form too, while we wait for the album, with a mammoth tour which sees them play 25 UK dates, before heading out to mainland Europe. Good news for those of us in Colchester, they’re coming here too, playing the Arts Centre on the 28th of April.

For those of you who’ve never heard Arcane Roots before, they’ve got something for everyone really. The biggest riffs around; they’ve never really shied away from loud and low breakdowns, with many of their songs either being built around huge riffs or throwing in a breakdown for good measure. While often bands like this scream their way through their tracks, Andrew’s voice is phenomenal. Frequently alternating between yelling and singing, the range during the sung parts stand them head and shoulders above their peers. It’s these unique qualities which have seen them tour with the likes of Muse and Biffy Clyro.

Support on the night comes from Black Peaks, who’ve been making waves in the last year after a well received Sonsiphere set, and Gallery Circus. A genuinely excellent pairing of bands for a show like this.

(as much as I genuinely hate guitar solos, that one at 4:40 is insane)

Tickets are £10 through the Arts Centre website. Fans of Reuben, Biffy Clyro or Blakfish should not miss this.
