Vision Fortune – Country Music

Picture for a moment your on holiday in a picturesque Tuscany villa. You’ve just awoken from a peaceful sleep and you get out from your comfy bed. You look out the window and the sun is shining. You make your way to the kitchen to poor yourself a glass of your favourite drink to sip by the pool. All of a sudden you notice there’s a huge monstrous shadow moving down the corridor. You look around and find your no longer where you once thought. No, your somewhere much more terrifying! This is the feeling of Country Music, the second album by duo Vision Fortune. The only relevance behind the title being that the album was recorded in the Tuscany Villa previously described. The dark, mysterious and overly bleak album will leave you in a desolate place far away from the sweet pickings heard down in Dixie.

You may want to think twice before you open the door to the scary house that is Country Music. The electronic album centres around a theme of constant suspense and unease that weighs heavy on the listener. Featuring minimalistic themes such as throbbing drones, pulsating bass, evolving drums and dreary vocals, the album would work perfectly as a soundtrack to the new Alien Isolation game. Just like Amanda Ripley you find yourself moving down a very eerie corridor, completely at the mercy of Vision Focus who you fear could jump out on you at any moment just like the alien. They do achieve a few scares; the most impactful being the sacrificial like chants and out of place sounds that cut through the mix and take you by surprise. The album builds in tension but a sense of repetition and waiting for something different to happen means you never really get to see the full terror of the monster.

Overall Country Music is a chilling album that I would recommend listening to in a dark room wearing headphones for full impact. Turn up loud and prey there’s no monster hiding in your closet or underneath your bed
