The debut single from an artist who is devotedly pioneering the alternative R&B genre, and with ‘Please Don’t Stop the Rain’, is proving that this is where she belongs.
A dramatic intro pulls us into Alexie’s sensitive yet affectionate lyrics and although the tender tones from the soft piano rhythm throughout, I’m catching myself singing the chorus as if I’m ready to kick some ass!
This captivating singer songwriter from Sunderland has the ability to translate raw emotion she has experienced, directly through moving lyrics that are not only delicate, but tough right through to the bone. Alexie’s upcoming EP, The Butterfly Effect, promises a journey from unmotivated teen to determined woman, which is foreshadowed in this released track and I’m confident that an EP will be just as personal as ‘Please Don’t Stop the Rain’.
This is a very strong single for a first drop, Alexie’s singing voice is clearly capable of the licks we often hear from artists like Jessie J and I look forward to more upbeat tracks from the EP that allow her to be more flexible and show off her talent on another level. This is a genre that is not currently in mass production and if ‘Please Don’t Stop the Rain‘ is an introduction to alternative R&B for you than believe what you hear because Alexie has captured the sensitive yet sing-along attitude that comes with tracks from this area.
Alexie is picking up speed fast and I reckon that she is going to have a really great year surrounding her EP release.
