‘I’m a little too young, but not enough time‘ vocalist Kieran Shudall sagely informs us on Circa Waves‘ second release. It’s a concept I can confess to knowing all to well– and so, probably, can you: feeling frighteningly youthful and yet somehow knowing that actually time is frantically running away from you and that you should really be further ahead in your life than you are now.
Aside from the lyrics, ‘Stuck In My Teeth‘ conveys that frantic, against the clock nature with it’s hooky melody. A hurried, dual guitar rhythm has this track whizzing at breakneck pace whilst recalling the Is This It? era of The Strokes (a comparison that, by now, the band are probably sick to death of). Meanwhile the drumbeat pulses ominously, scarily reminiscent of those minutes ticking past– and it’s enough to break you out into a cold sweat and start thinking ‘oh god, they’re right!‘ and start planning your next huge life-decision.
‘Stuck In My Teeth‘ inevitably is a track that could set you into a panic-induced spurt of energy (which is no bad thing) whilst getting completely wedged in your subconscious. Circa Waves have hit upon another cracking song and prove why they’re touted as ones to watch this year.
