Camp Bestival!!!

This review comes from Eva Bacchoo, aged 12.

When we arrived, after a long a journey, it was a short walk to out campsite where our huge tent was already set up for us. There were proper toilets and hot showers on site and even a market with hairdryers, straighteners and curlers for everyone to use! After we unpacked, we decided to go into the festival and have a look round. It was packed with food stalls, boutiques and entertainment for all ages including a circus tent which had a different exciting event every hour – such as theatre workshops ect.

Once we had a quick look round, we walked to the main stage outside Lulworth castle where ‘the proclaimers’ were playing. Their music was amazing and brought everyone to their feet, especially when the song ‘500 miles’ was performed! Near the stage were about 6 different food stalls from around the world: Mexican, Spanish, hog roast, churos and even an Indian flat bread stall. We had chilli burritos and nachos from the Mexican buffet, it was delicious and full of flavours!

We went back to the tent early to get some rest. In the morning, in the big top tent, was an interactive music session with some members from the Royal Albert Hall orchestra. We brought along saucepan lids and wooden spoons to do some tapping! I enjoyed this a lot, mainly because it was child friendly and made classical music fun!

Next, at the main stage, was Mr Tumble! My 3 year old sister loved it, and so did all the other kids watching. He sang well known songs and got everyone dancing, I thought this was great family fun! After Mr Tumble, was Horrible Histories doing a show about ‘Barmy Britain‘ going from the Romans right up to now, talking about how Britain has changed. They talked about kings and queens, invasions and historic heroes like Florence Nightingale they did this by acting out short sketches, singing and dancing.

There were two whole fields full of children’s entertainment, with lots of fun activities like art, face painting and even dance lessons from the UK’s top contemporary teachers, along with an around the world themed lesson from ‘brit school’ students! That evening we went to an area called Soul Park, a calmer place to be just to wind down and relax, with massage, yoga and even spa treatments. In the middle was a divine campfire surrounded by lots of people listening to live music, there was a group singing slow summer songs that really got people in the summery mood!

On Sunday, at the main stage was a Jungle Book sing along, they played the film and had lyrics on the screen, encouraging everyone to sing along! We had lunch in the YBF tent, that stands for Young British Foodies. It was a big tent full of different stalls, they all looked so amazing I didn’t know which one to choose! In the end I went for a stone baked Italian pizza – one of the best I ever had! My stepdad had an Indian naan wrap with curry, carrot, chilli and beetroot, it was really nice. We had such a great lunch that we went back there for dinner where I had risotto balls with vegetable stew…..YUM!!

In the afternoon we went back to the stage one more time to watch The Polyphonic Spree do a performance of the songs from the musical Rocky Horror! We left afterwards and unfortunately wern’t able to stay for the fireworks and Labrinth performing live! But im sure it would have been great!

Overall, Camp Bestival was great for my family in every way! Food wise, accommodation wise and most of all entertainment wise, because there aren’t many things a family with children aged 1, 3 and 12 can all enjoy together. Camp Bestival ticked all the boxes! I would definitely go next year if we had an opportunity to because there was quite a lot we didn’t have a chance to do, so I would do those things, and also the things I enjoyed most, again!
