Live at Leeds 2013 Preview

We’ve finally made it to spring after what seems like forever and for many Yorkshire dwellers that means only one thing, Live at Leeds is just around the corner! The event provides the unofficial start of the summer festival season and as ever promises a wealth of artists both new and old, enormous and tiny.

Headlining are recent number one chart toppers Rudimental and local heroes The Pigeon Detectives but if they and the O2 Academy are not your cup of tea – such is the beauty of Live at Leeds – there is almost guaranteed to be something to suit your taste elsewhere across the other 14 or so venues at any one time.

Indeed there is practically something for every taste, whether it be delightful folk acts in a church (Holy Trinity) or getting wild with some of the best up and coming noisy rock bands in the country (Hawk eyes, These Monsters at Mine) the choices are seemingly endless. Don’t believe us? Then check out the full schedule and just try making a plan! We give it under a minute before you are tearing your hair out deciding where you want to be!

Of course the main event is the wristbanded all-dayer on Saturday 4th May which sees acts playing from 12 noon until gone 12 midnight at 15 venues across Leeds city centre, but of course that’s not all we can expect from the 7th edition of the event. Firstly on Friday 3rd May there’s the ‘Unconference’ which, with prior registration, allows budding industry enthusiasts to gain an insight into working in the music business. What’s more this is offered free of charge.

Organised by local hero Whiskas (formerly of ¡Forward Russia!) he’s called upon a wide range of contributors including Wichita Management and Pitchfork to offer an insight into Networking and the consumption of music in the digital age. Following the Unconference there’s an intimate show at the Wardrobe featuring Wet Nuns and Barefoot Beware, amongst others. (£5 on the door, or free to Unconference attendees)

Meanwhile on Sunday 5th May there’s a large scale event taking place at Millenium Square featuring The Vaccines with support from Toy and Temples (ticketed separately) and rounding off the weekend on Monday 6th there’s the now customary Live at Leeds football tournament taking place at Goals Soccer Centre on Kirkstall Road. 32 teams take part featuring promoters, bands, venue staff and a whole host of other Leeds musical luminaries battling it out in 5 a side action. Its free to attend as a spectator and begins at 1pm.

For much more info you can head over to the Live at Leeds official website which has information about every band playing, along with anything else you might need to know about the weekend’s events.

As ever, tickets are selling quickly for what is one of the highlights of the musical calendar in Yorkshire. You can grab them here for the bargain price of £22.50. Stay tuned for 7Bit’s must see picks for the Saturday which will be up on the site very soon.
