Live at Leeds – Five to see

Live at Leeds is this Saturday 4th May and 7Bit writers Bash and Katy will be in attendance. If you’re struggling to fill your schedule (not likely!) they have both recommended 5 acts each for the all dayer. You could do far worse than take a trip to see any of the following!

To round off we’ve also prepared a warm up playlist via Spotify for the event, which you can access below.

    Bash

Department M – 3:30pm Leeds Uni Stylus

Department M are the new venture from ex Grammatics frontman Owen Brinley and therefore demand the close attention of anyone who enjoyed his supremely under rated previous band.

Post War Glamour Girls – 4:30pm Leeds Uni Stylus

One of Leeds’ finest up and comers combine Crooning vocals with atmospheric soundscapes, along with an artistic outlook that results in a band to really believe in. Fantastic new double A side single Jazz Funerals / Johnny and Mary gives an insight of what is to come.

Castrovalva – 5:00pm Leeds Uni Mine

‘Valva do their own thing (which happens to be a perfect blend of Hip Hop and Screamo) and operate on a refreshingly DIY ethic. Best enjoyed live and loud, the trio are also provide welcome bits of comedy gold in between songs and don’t take themselves too seriously. Possibly the most fun band on the lineup!

Dutch Uncles – 8:45pm Leeds Uni Stylus

The Manchester indie-poppers have always impressed me in the past with their danceable rhythms and unique vocals, and have many more weapons in their arsenal following the recent release of third album “Out of Touch, In the Wild”.

Sky Larkin – 11:00pm Leeds Uni Mine

Perennial Leeds favourites for many a year now make a relatively rare appearance and seem destined to play to a compact yet dedicated crowd given who they’re up against – but deserved headliners they are! Wichita don’t release albums by just anyone you know.

    Katy

Harry George Johns – 1:00pm Holy Trinity Church

Former member of Dinosaur Pile Up and Old Romantic Killer Band, Harry Johns has struck out on his own and purveys heart breakingly raw acoustic songs of beauty. The venue has been perfectly matched for this performance, don’t miss it!

Witch Hunt – 5:00pm Leeds Met Stage 2

Boy/girl duo Witch Hunt seem like a good bet, given their influences reference PJ Harvey and, pretty much the coolest duo going, The Kills. Should be a lot more than style over substance.

Pete Roe – 5:30pm Cockpit 3

Pete is another fabulous solo artist, and key member of Laura Marling’s touring band. Surely the approval of perhaps the country’s finest solo female is enough to convince you?

Hawk Eyes – 10:00pm Leeds Uni Mine

Possibly the hardest rock band on the lineup, these lot are for you if you enjoy your guitar music uncompromisingly full on. Guaranteed to take you on a rip roaring ride.

The Walkmen – 10:15pm Leeds Uni Stylus

Yes, they’re one of the headliners but perhaps one of the less obvious ones. Stone cold classic “The Rat” made them famous but I’m sure they will be able to teach many of the up and comers what it takes to be a truly successful band with a fantastic stage presence.

Where ever you find yourself, we hope you thoroughly enjoy your Live at Leeds!
