Band of the Day: Misty Miller

With a voice strong and lyrics wise beyond her years, Misty Miller might just be able to rise above her youth and establish herself as one of the finer female singer-songwriter talents to come out of Britain this side of KT Tunstall/Laura Marling. Her new EP Girlfriend shows her youth at times and her influences being worn on sleeves – it’s hard not to think of Blondie at times, and her look suggests more than a coincidental Avril Lavigne replication – yet her striking vocals are very difficult to overlook.

Miller, who wrote her titular debut album at the age of 15 while at school, might be thrust unknowingly into the crop of young solo artists emerging who seem fused to their acoustic guitars and are perhaps no more than a few feet away from their favourite vinyls and plaid shirts… but once she’s got past the ‘Jake Bugg support act’ phase of her career you’d hope she finds herself in the position to sell out her own shows.

And why shouldn’t she? There’s a definitively laudable talent in Misty Miller.
