Band of the Day: Stacey Cohen

One listen to ‘Fine Times’ should be enough to convince you to listen to the commanding alternative-folk songstress Stacey Cohen; it only took a couple of songs off her stellar first album to convince me to buy it, and its place in my fairly small CD collection is as potent a testament to her quality as I can offer.

Not that that won’t stop me from trying further to convince you Stacey’s music is worth your time and money: Butterfly Kisses Squeeze My Mind is compelling, filled with unorthodox but inspiring acoustic rhythms and impassioned vocals, avant-garde folk with hints of bluegrass and country infused into something marvellous.

Last year Stacey recorded a very intimate family-oriented EP: Friends And Family is a more personal release, with a touching end-product recorded in multiple places with the help of her Uruguayan uncle.  2012 hasn’t seen any release emerge just yet, but Stacey has instead been taking to stages in the UK nearish to North Wales where she currently resides, her performances seemingly going down a treat for those lucky enough to attend.

She’s got a few more gigs left (if interested). If you’re just window shopping, a lot of Stacey’s work is on Myspace.
